DALLAS Former Ute Keith Van Horn scored 22 points to help the Dallas Mavericks beat the Detroit Pistons 103-97 in an exhibition game on Thursday night.
Dirk Nowitzki and Marquis Daniels added 16 points each for Dallas (6-2).
Richard Hamilton scored 18 points and Chauncey Billups had 13 for Detroit (4-3).
The Pistons held an 82-81 advantage before Van Horn score eight straight points. His three-point play with 7:59 left gave the Mavericks the lead for good.
Van Horn hit two free throws on Dallas' next possession and connected on a 3-pointer with 6:35 remaining to put the Mavericks in front, 89-82.
The Pistons got as close as 96-93 with 2:24 left on Maurice Evans' basket.
But Daniels' layup with 1:16 remaining and Van Horn's 3-pointer with 40 seconds to play pushed the Mavericks' lead to 101-93.
The Pistons were up by 12 in the second quarter and were in front at halftime, 56-45. Detroit held a 22-12 halftime rebounding edge, 8-2 on the offensive boards.
Detroit's Carlos Arroyo was ejected in the second quarter after an altercation with Nowitzki. Arroyo's layup attempt had been blocked by Nowitzki, and the two exchanged words under the Pistons' basket.
Arroyo tried to go after Nowitzki and had to be restrained by teammates. Arroyo received a double technical and Nowitzki was tagged with one technical.
Erick Dampier was back in the Mavericks rotation after missing three straight games due to a sore right hip. Teammate Jerry Stackhouse remains out with a sore right knee.
Detroit guard Lindsey Hunter was out, recovering from left ankle surgery.
SPURS 101, 76ERS 98: At San Antonio, Tim Duncan had 26 points and 12 rebounds to lead the San Antonio Spurs over the Philadelphia 76ers.
Tony Parker added 23 points on 10-of-17 shooting for the Spurs (2-7).
Brent Barry hit a 3-pointer with 37.9 seconds remaining that snapped a 96-96 tie. Barry finished with 21 points and made five of six 3-pointers.
With Philadelphia down 99-98 after Steven Hunter answered Barry's 3-pointer with a slam dunk, Chris Webber missed a hook shot with 3 seconds remaining. Duncan rebounded it and made two free throws after being fouled with 1.7 seconds left.
Kyle Korver missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer for Philadelphia (3-5).
