I am concerned that Rep. Peggy Wallace has plans to sponsor legislation to define the form of government cities may have, mandating that first- and second-class cities which maintain a mayor-council form of government be required to hire a city manager. In my opinion this is the business of the constituents of said cities and does not and should not come under the purview of the state Legislature.
There is more than enough on the plate of the Utah Legislature that needs careful attention without becoming over-responsible for city governance. Leave that up to the voters of the cities and their elected officials. Allow them to clean up their own messes and create their own prosperity.
