Weber State football coach Ron McBride could not have been more proud of his team followingSaturday's 28-23 upset victory over No. 6 Eastern Washington.

The Wildcats (4-4, 3-2) scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to come from behind and defeat the Eagles in their Homecoming game. It was the first road victory of the season for Weber State, who had previously allowed two potential wins to slip through its grasp against ranked opponents Montana and Montana State.

Getting the win was significant for the Wildcats because it keeps them in contention for the Big Sky title.

"It was a big step," McBride said. "To do it on the road against anybody is tough, let alone against one of the best teams in the conference. We're in contention."

One player McBride was especially proud of was receiver Wiley King. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound senior speedster has had a relatively quiet season, but became the playmaker in the fourth quarter against the Eagles. Quarterback Ian Pizarro hooked up with King on plays of 45 and 69 yards to give the Wildcats the lead and win. King finished with four catches for 153 yards and two scores.

"(King) had a monster game," McBride said. McBride was also equally impressed with the play of the Wildcats' defense.

On two occasions in the first half, Eastern Washington had first-and-goal and only came away with two field goals. The Wildcats also held talented Eagles' quarterback Erik Meyer and the offense to nearly 100 yards less than their season average of 511.3 yards per game.

The defense also came up huge in the fourth quarter. While King and the offense were making plays, the WSU defense held EWU to 54 total yards on their last three drives. Defensive lineman Brady Fosmark led the way with three sacks and 11 total tackles.

Weber brings its two-game winning streak back to Ogden as it hosts old rival Idaho State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
