BRADY WOOTTON, Mountain Crest: Week after week this year, Wootton has proven himself as perhaps the most versatile running back in the state.

Last week alone in a 55-28 win over Sky View, he carried the ball 11 times for 169 yards and three TDs, while catching three passes for 103 yards and two more TDs.

That upped his season statistics to 20 TDs, 1202 rushing yards and 566 receiving yards.

"It was an emotional night," said Mountain Crest coach Mark Wootton, Brady's father. "(Five touchdowns) is a great game. It gets a little embarrassing because he gets quite a bit of credit, but (QB Brady) Zimmerman and our offensive line did a great job. Brady has great speed so it looks really neat. But kids are making plays and putting him in a position to be successful."

Thanks to the outstanding efforts of Wootton this year, the Mustangs are the No.1-ranked team in 4A heading into the state tourney.

HALEY ANDERSEN, Woods Cross: This senior goalkeeper ended the 4A soccer season when she saved a penalty kick in a shootout to give the Wildcats the title.

"Haley is very, very capable," said coach Kevin Rigby. "Besides being a great keeper, she has so much going for her. She was our emotional and inspirational leader. She is a three-year captain, and she always was a joy to be around."

Andersen posted seven shutouts, including what her coach called a "perfect" performance in the title match. She had a 1.11 goals-against-average, and time after time made the big saves when the team needed it.

"Haley always came up with whatever we needed," Rigby added. "If it was a cute phrase or saying, or a nice play, she is a great leader."

Besides her prowess at stopping goals, Andersen is also a class officer and has such high academic standards that she was nominated for Academic All-State honors.
