OREM The Integrated Studies Program at Utah Valley State College will present the documentary "Small Fortunes" next Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Room 404 of the Computer Sciences and Engineering building.
The film will premiere nationwide Oct. 27 on PBS.
"Small Fortunes" is a one-hour documentary that describes the impact of microcredit through the stories of 12 people living in Bangladesh, India, Kenya, Peru, the Philippines and the United States. The purpose of microcredit is to give loans to people living in poverty to start small-scale businesses, thus helping them escape poverty and provide for their families.
A panel discussion will be held at 6:30 p.m. The panel discussion will feature Troy Holmberg of Yehu Bank, Dr. Scott Leckman, president of the Utah Medical Association and general surgeon in Salt Lake City, and Matt Whitaker, the producer of the film.
