CROSS COUNTRY: Southern Utah sophomore Jess Baumgartner won for the fourth time in five races, while the Thunderbird women notched their second team victory of the season as SUU's cross country teams closed the 2005 regular season at the third Southern Utah Color Country Invitational Saturday at Cedar Ridge Golf Course.

SUU's women outscored Utah Valley State 35-40 for the victory, with Idaho State third with 51 points.

Idaho State slipped by the T-Bird men to claim the men's title 34-36 with UVSC claiming third with 53 points.

Seven BYU athletes competed in the men's race, but they ran unattached.

SOCCER: Tara Olson and Brooklyn Phillips each notched a goal and an assist, while Holly Davis stopped seven shots to record her second solo shutout victory of the season as Southern Utah's women's soccer team blanked Cleveland State 2-0 on Saturday night in Cleveland.

The win moved the Thunderbirds to 4-3-6, while the Vikings remained winless at 0-15.

Southern Utah travels to Shreveport, La., for two matches — against Mid-Con foe Centenary on Friday and LSU-Shreveport on Sunday.

Utah State

SOCCER: Charity Weston scored both USU goals to help the Aggies become the first team to put a blemish on Hawaii's conference record, 2-1, in a Western Athletic Conference match Sunday.

The win was USU's third in its last four matches as it improved to 5-7-3 overall and 2-1 in the WAC. Hawaii fell to 6-7-2 and 3-1.

Utah State is at Nevada Friday and at Fresno State Sunday.

VOLLEYBALL: The Aggies lost a four-game match at the University of Nevada Saturday night, 22-30, 30-24, 26-30, and 26-30.

Utah State falls to 13-8 overall and 5-2 in league play, while Nevada, which has won 11 of its last 12 matches, improves to 12-6 overall and 7-1 in the WAC.

Utah Valley State

VOLLEYBALL: After an exhausting five-game win Friday night over Wyoming, Utah Valley State came out flat Saturday, losing to Northern Colorado in three games, 15-30, 25-30, 26-30, in Greeley.

UVSC makes the short trip to No. 16 BYU Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match. The Cougars are 15-0.

SOCCER: The soccer team will look to put an end to its longest losing streak Monday as the Wolverines welcome Hawaii for a 2 p.m. match.

UVSC (3-9) has dropped four consecutive games, including a heartbreaker to Utah State in its last home contest.
