For "Life in the Shadows," Deseret Morning News reporters and photographers delved into the lives of undocumented immigrants in their homes, schools and workplaces.

They also accompanied local police in southern Utah and federal agents in Salt Lake City.

They traveled to Mexico for a firsthand look at border issues and life south of the border.

In all, they spent more than four months researching, photographing and writing the seven-part series.

Those involved in the project include: lead reporters Lucinda Dillon Kinkead, Dennis Romboy and Deborah Bulkeley.

Contributing reporters were Jesse Hyde and Lee Davidson.

Lead photographer was Tyler Sipe, with photographers Laura Seitz, Keith Johnson, Michael Brandy and Tom Smart. Project photo editor was Chuck Wing.

Paginator Heidi Perry designed the pages, with artists Bob Noyce and Jessica Berry designing graphic elements.

Copy editors included Bob Cazier, Anne Ferguson, Barbara Gingery, Susan Hermance, Steve Warren, Julie Williamson and Pam Whitmore.

Translators were Jerry Johnston and Erin Stewart in Utah and Lorenzo Pacheco in Mexico.

Project editor was Angelyn N. Hutchinson.
