ModusLink Corp., a Massachusetts-based supply chain management services provider, has expanded its Utah presence with a 175,000-square-foot facility in West Valley City.

The company already operates a 338,000-square-foot plant in Lindon, ModusLink spokeswoman Deb Keeman said.

The new West Valley facility, 4640 S. 5400 West, will provide "forward" supply chain services like supply chain design and consulting, just-in-time materials planning and procurement and inventory management.

ModusLink is a subsidiary of CMGI Inc., also based in Waltham, Mass.

CMGI provides technology and e-commerce solutions that help businesses market, sell and distribute their products and services. It has 37 facilities in 13 countries and employs nearly 4,000 people worldwide.

"ModusLink has been delivering supply chain services from Utah for more than 11 years. This area of the United States has proven to be an excellent location to deliver end-to-end supply chain services," said Joseph C. Lawler, president and chief executive of CMGI, in a prepared statement.

"As a global supply chain services provider, ModusLink understands the importance the supply chain plays in an organization's product success, and therefore it is our responsibility to respond to our clients' needs quickly and deliver the best possible solutions to increase efficiency, decrease costs and improve profits."

Salt Lake City and its surrounding communities provide "a good, quality work force," Keeman said. "It's also close, a good location for getting product to multiple locations."

Currently, the West Valley operation employs about 130 people. When fully operational, that number likely will increase to about 400 permanent and temporary employees, Keeman said.
