The 100th Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Utah will consider a new five-year plan centered on the theme of "Living Boldly."
Nearly 250 clergy and lay delegates from 22 congregations are gathered at the Davis Conference Center in Layton this weekend. Part of the proposed plan includes more attention to stewardship and evangelism, a theme begun at the 99th Convention last year in Salt Lake City.
The convention is expected to hear from the Rev. Katharine "Kitty" Babson, who will lead a workshop for lay leaders called "Beyond our Borders." The Rev. Babson is the Episcopal Church USA's missionary to Myanmar and other Southeast Asian countries.
The convention celebration of the Holy Eucharist will take up an offering for hurricane relief efforts.
The Episcopal Church in Utah, with 6,000 members, has 21 congregations in the state and one in Page, Ariz. The church is a diocese of the Episcopal Church USA and is part of the 77 million-member worldwide Anglican Communion.
