Utah low-income families have been awarded $8.1 million in federal money to help pay their heating bills this winter.
The money, awarded by the Administration for Children and Families at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is part of $1.3 billion sent to states, tribes and territories through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)/
More than 4.5 million low-income households across the country receive LIHEAP assistance each year. The program helps eligible families pay for home heating and insulation in winter and for home cooling in warmer months.
Individuals interested in applying for LIHEAP assistance can contact their local/state LIHEAP agency or at www.acf.dhhs.gov/programs/liheap/directry.htm.
