The size and configuration of antlers is determined by genetics.

Antler size

Myth: The number of points on antelers indicates the age of a deer.

Fact: The only accurate way to determine age is by checking the teeth.

Antler size can only determine a deer's general age: young, mature or old.

Antler classification

Typical: Four point on each antler.

Non-typical: Five or more points.

Record: 22 points on one side, 21 on the other.
