A recount is expected today in the District 7 Salt Lake City Council primary election.
Soren Simonsen already has survived the Oct. 4 primary, but two candidates, Gordon Poulson and Danny Walz, are in a race that is still undecided a week later.
According to final results approved by the city's Board of Canvassers on Tuesday, Poulson beat Walz by just two votes, 282 to 280, in the primary. Because the race is within 28 votes, Walz is able to ask for a recount and has said he probably will seek one. He has a week to request the recount, but the city elections clerk has asked him to seek a recount sooner rather than later.
District 7 is largely comprised of the Sugar House neighborhood. Popular City Councilman Dale Lambert decided not to seek re-election. Three other candidates were eliminated in the primary.
