OREM Fans of the comics, including fledgling artists, can spend Saturday picking the brains of veterans in the field.
Others, who maybe simply enjoy comic strips, can attend workshops, collect artist signatures and even dress in costume as a favorite character as the Utah Valley State College Woodbury Art Museum celebrates the color and contribution of comics over the years.
Activities begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday and include gaming, a silent auction, a quick draw contest and an opportunity to purchase comic books.
Creators currently working in the field will review the portfolios of those interested in drawing comics for a living. They will also sign comic books and sketch for fans.
Workshop teachers and panelists include Sal Velluto, Robin DeSpain, Andrew Dabb, Tyler Kirkham, Jake Black, Ric Estrado, Howard Tayler, Derek Hunter, Chad Hardin, Bill Galvan and Tyler Thomson. Their credits include Batman, Smallville, Wonder Women, Superman, Spiderman 3, EverQuest and Invincible.
Workshops include "Draw with Super Power," "Visual Storytelling" and "Manga for Me."
"The Art of Comics: Featuring Will Eisner" exhibit will run simultaneously with the celebration exhibit which chronicles the past 100 years of the comic book.
There are prizes for the winners of the Quick Draw contest. Participants are given story text from which he or she creates an illustration.
In the gaming event, each player constructs an "army" of game pieces, each of which represents a superhero or battletech from assorted comic books and the BattleTech Universe.
