One man was charged in 3rd District Court Friday after causing an officer's gun to discharge during a scuffle at Trolley Square.
Officers responded to a report of a potential car theft at about 12:30 a.m. in the parking lot at 648 E. 600 South. When they arrived, two men had broken into a vehicle. One ran off, according to court documents.
The other man, 22, refused police orders and got into another car and attempted to drive away. The officer pointed his gun at the man and the man grabbed at it, causing it to discharge.
He is charged with disarming a peace officer, a first-degree felony, aggravated assault, failure to respond to an officer's signal to stop and attempted theft, all third-degree felonies. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
