Recapping the past week, looking ahead and highlighting some of the top performances in Utah Valley State College athletics . . .

THE WEEK THAT WAS: Women's soccer lost two games in Las Vegas over the weekend, 4-0 to UNLV on Friday and 3-0 to Northern Arizona on Sunday . . . Junior Nic van Vuuren shot a 3-under 213 at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate in Kansas City to finish third individually and lead the men's golf team to a fourth-place finish. Women's volleyball traveled to the Dakotas, sweeping North Dakota State in three games Friday and falling on Sunday to South Dakota State in a tough five-game match.

FEMALE WOLVERINE OF THE WEEK: Jessica Endres, volleyball. The sophomore middle blocker totaled 32 kills as the Wolverines split their two-game road trip to the Dakotas. In Friday's victory over the Bison, the 6-foot-1 Endres set a UVSC record by hitting .773 on her kill attempts (18 kills, 22 attempts, 1 error).

MALE WOLVERINE OF THE WEEK: Jordan Rogers, golf. While van Vuuren's excellence has come to be expected, a surprisingly strong finish by sophomore Rogers at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate pushed the Wolverines to their fourth-place team finish. A Spanish Fork native who redshirted last year following an LDS mission to Tampa, Fla., Rogers shot a final round 1-over 73 to leapfrog eight golfers and finish 24th in the individual standings.

THEY SAID IT: "The kid just battles. He is going to break through anytime and get a championship. He will have many titles by the time he is done here." — Men's golf coach Tommy Johnson, speaking about van Vuuren.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE: Men's and women's cross country, women's golf — idle this week. Women's soccer — at Nevada, 7 p.m. Friday. Women's volleyball — vs. Texas-Pan American, 7 p.m. Saturday; vs. Utah State, 6 p.m. Monday. Men's golf — at the Boise State Bronco Roundup, Monday and Tuesday, Falcon Crest Golf Course in Boise.
