In another surprise, incumbent West Jordan Mayor Bryan Holladay was kicked out of office. Former City Council members David Newton and Brian Pitts beat Holladay and will face each other in the general election.

In Murray, incumbent Mayor Dan Snarr failed to win over the majority of voters gaining only 47 percent of the vote while facing three challengers. David Wilde won out among those challengers and will face Snarr in November.

Up the road in Salt Lake City, Mayor Rocky Anderson recorded telephone messages that were sent to several homes in City Council District 3, which is dominated by the Avenues neighborhood. Anderson encouraged people to vote for 23-year-old Janneke House, instead of incumbent Eric Jergensen. While House survived the primary, she has an uphill climb. Jergensen secured 64 percent of the vote in the primary.
