The Boyer Co. and Wal-Mart have organized a group to campaign for development at a former gravel pit in Sandy at 9400 South and 1000 East.

Friends of Quarry Bend is underwritten by Wal-Mart, and its spokesman, Charlie Evans, has been hired to advocate a zoning change that will allow Boyer's proposed development, "Quarry Bend."

A voter referendum is scheduled Nov. 8.

Friends of Quarry Bend members say the campaign was organized to counter Save Our Communities, a grass-roots effort against development and the zoning change.
