Sophomore gets kicks in Fremont win
In fact, he spent the first half socializing with his friends in the south end zone. But when Silver Wolves' kicker Kevin Squires injured his knee with 57 seconds left in the third quarter, Fremont needed a kicker and Hart had to be located. His name was called over the public address system and he was sent to the locker room to dress. He borrowed a uniform from a teammate because all his gear was at home, dressed, and ran back out onto the field in the fourth quarter just in time to kick a 25-yard field goal. The kick turned out to be the difference in the game.
"I've never done that before," said Fremont coach Blaine Monkres. "But he was our most accurate guy."
The win was a big one for the Silver Wolves (6-1, 4-0) because it puts them in the Region 1 driver's seat with two games to go. The loss drops Viewmont to 1-2 in region play, 3-3 overall.
Raught scored on throws from Greydn Morin from 3, 24 and 23 yards. Monkres said the biggest of Raught's three scores happened right before halftime when Fremont was able to drive the length of the field and score with seven seconds remaining. "That was big," Monkres said. "With the defensive effort early and that score, it (set the tone) for the second half."
For the night, Morin passed for 206 yards. Defensive back Joe Ridenour also contributed two interceptions.
Viewmont started strong in the first quarter as it took a 7-0 lead on a Greg Madsen 3-yard run, following a blocked punt by Sean Hollingshead. The Vikings continued in the second quarter with a 54-yard pass from Madsen to Nate Randall that made the halftime score 13-13.
With Fremont leading 23-13 late in the fourth quarter, Madsen led one last drive that he capped with a 9-yard touchdown run. But Viewmont was unable to recover the onside kick.
