Nancee Draney says it's ludicrous for South Ogden police to say they did everything in their power to investigate a 911 call placed Sept. 2 by Mark D'Agnillo.

"My son committed a terrible, terrible act but was able to gather enough mental and emotional composure to reach out for help and call 911," Draney said. "Instead, his 911 call for help is being critiqued and criticized because his voice was too calm . . . and he couldn't answer the door. God help us all if that is the criteria for a 911 call."

The officers who responded found no one would answer the door and are now wishing they had forced their way into the home, where the family of three was found dead two weeks later.

"They're second-guessing themselves," said South Ogden Police Lt. Darin Parke. The last time Draney spoke with her son was Sept. 1 when he asked her for help to pay the rent.

Draney said she left messages on her son's answering machine every other day during those two weeks. She believed the couple was busy with their new baby and didn't think anything of it until she drove by the apartment and saw the car hadn't moved for days. She then requested that the apartment manager perform a welfare check on the D'Agnillos' apartment and the manager complied because of earlier reports of an odor coming from the apartment.

Then two weeks after being dispatched to the Villa South apartments following the 911 call from a man asking for medical help, police were called again.
