The LDS Church announced plans Wednesday to build a four-story, multi-use facility in downtown Ogden, citing optimism about the city's redevelopment efforts in the area.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, via its real estate investment arm, Property Reserve Inc., is expected to begin construction next year on a 75,000-square-foot office/retail building at 22nd Street and Washington Boulevard.

The building will be immediately south of the LDS Church's Ogden temple and adjacent to the Treehouse Children's Museum.

"This new office and retail facility will complement Ogden City's redevelopment efforts," Brian Carrington, PRI vice president, said in a prepared statement. "We are encouraged by the added vibrancy we see in this historic district and look forward to being a part of the renewal of downtown Ogden."

Church spokesman Dale Bills said PRI purchased the 1.2 acre-parcel of land earlier this year.

When complete, the Class-A office building is expected to be four stories, with underground parking and retail space on the ground floor.

Bills did not elaborate on whether Property Reserve has tenants lined up, what types of businesses will occupy the space or when the project is expected to be complete.

MHTN Architects will design the facility, the church said. Zions Securities Corp., the church's real estate management company, will manage and lease the building.
