Delegates of one of the nation's largest women's political organizations have elected a Utah woman as their upcoming president.

Beverly Davis of Eden, Weber County, was nominated during the 33rd biennial convention of the National Federation of Republican Women in Nashville on Sept. 11. Her opponent in the race was Judith Albertelli, president of the Florida Federation of Republican Women.

Davis currently serves as vice president of the organization and will assume the presidency Jan. 1, 2006. Her term of office will last one year.

"I am looking forward to the challenges ahead, particularly the 2006 elections," Davis said. "Republican candidates can count on our 100,000 members for grass-roots support in communities across America."

Davis has served as the president of the Utah Federation of Republican Women and has been a member of the national group's board of directors for several years. She has also worked on several successful Republican nomination campaigns including that of U.S. Sens. Orrin Hatch and Bob Bennett, Utah Gov. Jon M. Huntsman and Rep. Rob Bishop. She has also been integral in grass-roots politics, elections and campaigns in Weber County.
