HEBER CITY A fugitive was arrested Saturday after dodging police for the better part of a week.
The man had been arrested by Adult Probation and Parole on Tuesday but was able to escape after being taken into custody. Police received a tip Saturday that the Duchesne man would be visiting Heber City.
The man arrived for his visit about 3:30 p.m., and police had the place staked out. However, when officers tried to arrest the man, he escaped into the foothills, Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Jeff Winterton said.
A massive manhunt ensued, including assistance from a Department of Public Safety SWAT team and helicopter.
During the manhunt in the wilderness, police received a tip that the man was riding a bicycle in downtown Heber. Officers responded and took the man into custody, Winterton said. The man was wanted on firearms and narcotics warrants.
