Meet West Jordan candidates Wednesday
Chamber-sponsored event is just days before primary
WEST JORDAN Residents readying for October's primary have a chance next week to get to know more about the candidates seeking to represent them.
The West Jordan Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a meet-the-candidates night Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers on the third floor of City Hall, 8000 S. Redwood Road.
The candidates will field audience questions until 8:30 p.m. after which residents can mingle with the candidates and get to know them.
West Jordan voters will be faced with a long list of candidates in the Oct. 4 primary. Seeking to serve as mayor are Jeff Haaga, Mayor Bryan D. Holladay, Richard E. Jackman, David B. Newton and Brian D. Pitts. Running for the two at-large City Council seats are Councilwoman Kathy Hilton, Melissa Johnson, Noel Andrew Klawe, Sherrin Pelton, Councilman Stuart Richardson (I), Karen Shaeffer and Jay Sheen.
The general election is Nov. 8. To vote in the primary and general elections, residents must be registered to vote at their current address. Registration information is available at www.clerk.slco.org/html/register.html.
Residents also will have a chance soon to meet with elected officials. The Parent Teacher Association is sponsoring a night with West Jordan's elected state legislators Oct. 25 at Elk Meadows Elementary School. Residents will be able to talk to their state senator and representative about legislative priorities for the 2006 session.
