LOGAN — If Logan's 55-34 win over two-time defending state champion Bear River on Friday night was any indication of things to come, Region 11 opponents and the rest of the 3A schools have cause to worry.

The numbers tell the story. Grizzlies' quarterback Riley Nelson completed 38-of-48 passes for 465 yards and six touchdowns. He also rushed for two touchdowns.

Logan (4-1, 1-0) had six receivers catch four passes or more each and eight receivers had at least one catch. Kyle Dragnich had 10 catches for 152 yards; Josh Flores had eight for 77 and a touchdown; and Taylor Palmer had seven catches for 90 yards and three touchdowns.

The offense generated more than 25 first downs and never had to punt.

When the dust had cleared, the Grizzlies had racked up 578 total yards.

Nelson credited his teammates and said revenge had served as motivation. "Our receivers made great catches all night. The line provided time for me," Nelson said. "(Bear River) has beaten us the past two years, so that was on our mind. We wanted revenge on our homecoming and to show Region 11 the type of team we are."

Despite the Logan offensive show, Bear River (1-4, 0-1) was true to its trademark of never giving up. The Bears roared back to make the game respectable in the second half, highlighted by a couple of individual performances. Running back Justin Hupp ran for 157 yards and three touchdowns, with two coming on runs of 71 and 42 yards. Receiver Josh Miller caught three passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns, with the scores coming on a pair of 80-yard bombs from Tyson Rasmussen.

On top of getting such an impressive display by his team, Logan coach Mike Favero earned his 50th career victory in the process. "We didn't know that, but it's something extra to add to the special night," Nelson said. "I'm glad Coach could reach that milestone, and I hope he has many more wins to come."
