I would like to praise the actions of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for its stand against the proposed Skull Valley nuclear-waste repository. It may seem odd to some people to see the church take a stance on an issue like this. But by taking a position, they make us aware that there may be far-reaching consequences and dangers to our community that we don't even realize.
From my own secular point of view as a student studying community planning, this proposed nuclear-waste repository is contrary to the core principles of planning: to protect the health, welfare and safety of the citizens and community. High-level radioactive waste coming through Utah is a threat to the safety of our towns. Murphy's Law puts it perfectly. "If anything can go wrong, it will."
