Evacuees of Hurricane Katrina staying at Utah's Camp Williams are being offered a chance to experience one of Utah's famous ski resorts this week as Snowbird opens some of its attractions Friday.

The Utah National Guard will provide transportation for the evacuees to visit Snowbird, which tops out at 11,000 feet above sea level in the Wasatch Mountains, for a free day of enjoying the Alpine Slide, ZipRider, Bungy Trampoline and Aerial Team.

"While locals get to soak in the views of the Wasatch daily, the huge mountains are new to many of the evacuees at Camp Williams," Snowbird President Bob Bonar said.

The resort will be open to evacuees from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a barbecue lunch provided by Sysco International Food Service and Pepsi.

Snowbird is also accepting and matching donations to the American Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund through Oct. 9. Guests and employees can make donations as they pay for goods and services at the resort. Snowbird will match donations up to $10,000.
