Chief financial officer Linda Hamilton will now lead Salt Lake County's Department of Public Works.

Hamilton takes the spot of former director John Patterson, who left the county to take a post in Ogden.

"Linda took the lead in tightening our financial controls in county government," Mayor Peter Corroon said.

That fiscal oversight is what Corroon hopes Hamilton can bring to the Public Works Department, which oversees fleet operations. The fleet division has come under fire this year for shoddy finances, abuses of overtime and falsified reimbursement records.

Hamilton will now direct each of the divisions under the umbrella of Public Works including planning and development, operations, engineering, flood control, sanitation and solid waste management.
