"We're looking to do a full season," Feldman said. "If we're lucky, we'll get season two and then the goal would be to use one of our characters to transition to a new group of friends and tell their story over 20 years."

Which makes "Reunion" even more unusual by American TV series standards — a show that plans to jettison almost all of its cast if there's a second season and start with an entirely new premise and plotlines.

"You worry about season two when you get there," Feldman said. "We do have a plan for season two, and I think we're ready to hit the ground running if and when we have that opportunity."

And job security or not, Faris said a role like this is an "actor's dream."

"It's awesome to be able to come and play a role in which the character changes every episode and yet at the same time you don't feel like you're locked away for five years to be playing the same thing over and over again," he said.

"I think it gives it a bit of the energy of a film," Davalos said, "because we know the beginning and we know that there's an end, which leaves a lot of freedom."
