In introducing U.S. Rep. Jim Matheson, D-Utah, before the Salt Lake Rotary Club on Tuesday, the master of ceremonies looked at Matheson and asked if she could announce that Matheson, 44, and his wife, Dr. Amy Herbener, are expecting their second child.

Matheson, a bit embarrassed, agreed — and so the word is out.

This will be the first child born to an incumbent U.S. House member from Utah since former Rep. Enid Greene gave birth to a daughter when she served in the House from 1995-96.

It will be the seventh grandchild for former Utah first lady Norma Matheson. Jim Matheson is the third-youngest child of Norma Matheson and the late Gov. Scott M. Matheson .

Jim Matheson and his wife recently moved near Norma Matheson (and the house Jim grew up in, just south of Hogle Zoo on the city's east side) to be closer to his mother — and potential baby sitter — while Rep. Matheson spends the week in Washington, D.C., and flies home on the weekends.

The baby is due in January.
