HYRUM Long passes, clutch runs and fourth-quarter turnovers helped the Fremont Silver Wolves beat the Mountain Crest Mustangs 24-14 Friday night to improve its record to 2-0 on the season.
It was the first loss of 2005 for Mountain Crest.
Fremont quarterback Greydn Morin had four completions of 30 yards or more and threw two touchdowns to lead the Silver Wolves. He was 11-for-21 with 245 yards and one interception.
With Mountain Crest leading 7-3 in the second quarter, Morin hit Austin Raught with a 30-yard pass and then found Jade Hadley for a 53-yard TD two plays later.
With Fremont trailing in the third, Morin found Taylor Proctor for 39 yards and Hadley for 40 yards on consecutive plays to set up a seven-yard TD toss to Raught.
Travis Jones had 12 carries for 73 yards 50 in the fourth quarter for Fremont. His five-yard touchdown run with just under seven minutes to play put the Silver Wolves up two possessions.
Brady Wootton rushed for 58 yards on 12 carries in the first half for Mountain Crest, but added only 14 yards in the second half.
Mustang quarterback Brady Zimmerman went nine-for-23 with 108 yards and two touchdowns, but fumbled the ball on a run and threw an interception in the fourth quarter. The two turnovers were the only ones of the game for Mountain Crest and came on its last two drives of the game.
The Mustangs took a 7-3 lead in the second quarter when Zimmerman found Cam Webb for a 16-yard touchdown pass. Zimmerman also hit Ryan Weese for a 23-yard TD in the third quarter after Phil Rutledge intercepted a Morin pass and ran it back to the Fremont 25-yard-line.
Kevin Squires hit a 39-yard field goal on the Silver Wolves' opening drive to give them a 3-0 lead.
