Auditions

The Utah Lyric Opera Society is holding auditions for its performance of Gilbert & Sullivan's "H.M.S. Pinafore."

Singers ages 16 and older are invited to audition at the SCERA Center for the Arts, 745 S. State Street, Orem, on Thursday and Friday from 5-7 p.m. Opera and/or musical theater experience is necessary.

Come prepared with 16 to 32 measures of an aria, a Gilbert & Sullivan selection or anything from musical theater. An accompanist will be provided.

Callback will be Saturday, Sept. 3, from 10 a.m.-noon. To schedule an appointment, call general director Ewan Mitton at 801-224-8342.

• THE SALT LAKE SYMPHONIC CHOIR, under the direction of George Welch, is holding auditions for all parts. If you are interested in auditioning, please call Jan Marsh at 699-7343 or 446-9987.

• THE SALT LAKE SYMPHONY will audition orchestral musicians on all instruments for the 2005-06 season. It will be Tuesday. Call 463-2440 for more information.

• THE BALLET CENTRE in Murray is holding auditions for its classes on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Call 265-0707 for an audition time.

• BALLET WEST is offering pre-registration for children's auditions for this year's production of "The Nutcracker."

Register Sept. 6 or Sept. 8 at Bryant Intermediate School, 40 S. 800 East, 4-7 p.m. Dancers must be 8 or older and range in height from 4 feet to 5 feet 8 inches. Only pre-registered dancers will be admitted to the auditions on Sept. 10 at the University of Utah (323-6947).

• THE INTERMOUNTAIN BALLET THEATRE will hold its "Nutcracker" registration Sept. 7-9 at the Academy of Ballet Arts, 9419 S. Union Square (650 East), Sandy. Registration is from 5-7 p.m. with a $5 fee and is open to boys and girls 6 and older. Auditions will be Sept. 10.

• MOUNTAIN WEST BALLET will hold open auditions for its 21st annual production of "The Nutcracker" Saturday, Sept. 17. Dancers who are at least 6 years old by Sept. 1 are invited to attend. Auditions will be at the Mountain West Ballet studio, 489 W. Park Land Drive (8845 South). Call 572-6222 for registration and audition times.
