PROVO (AP) A Lehi man was killed when he was thrown from a horse, tumbled down an embankment and his horse fell on top of him.
The accident happened Tuesday afternoon in Spanish Fork Canyon as the 60-year-old man was riding with several other people on the Fifth Water trail about 1.5 miles west of Sheep Creek Road.
The man's dog ran underneath his horse and was stepped on, Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Darren Gilbert said.
The dog yelped, spooking the horse, which then reared up, throwing the man off the horse and down a 10-foot embankment into Fifth Water Creek.
The horse also fell over the embankment and landed on top of him. The man suffered head and internal injuries.
He died at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.
