With Division leader Tacoma losing 9-4 at home against Fresno the Stingers let a golden opportunity slip past them. With a win, Salt Lake could have moved within one game of the lead in the Northern Division of the Pacific Coast League. Sacramento didn't waste much time grabbing the lead and the win 7-2, in the top of the 3rd the Cats used a pair of triples to blitz Stinger pitcher Chris Hunter for five runs. Stingers Manager Dino Ebel says his young pitcher just wasn't getting the ball over the plate.

The Stingers pitchers have given up 17 walks in the last two games. Sacramento's Brandt Colamarino sparked the big inning with a triple to right center driving in a pair of runs. After the dust had settled Sacramento built a 5-0 lead. The Stingers rallied in the bottom of the 5th with a RBI double from third baseman Adam Pavkovich and a blooper RBI single from second baseman Albert Callaspo for 6-2 Stingers deficit. However when catcher Jeff Mathis and DH Luke Allen both struck out the rally was over. River Cats starting pitcher, Juan Cruz had a no-hitter through four innings. He went 6-2 for Atlanta last season. Kelvim Escobar of the Los Angeles Angels started for the Stingers, Escobar is rehabbing bone spurs in his elbow. He threw 43 pitches and struckout 4 batters before leaving the game in the top of the second inning. The Stingers play their next nine games will be against the Colorado Sky Sox, five on the road and four here at Franklin Covey Field.
