Two people were injured, one critically, after two large trucks collided Monday afternoon in western Salt Lake County.
A semitrailer truck hauling two belly dumpers collided with a dump truck that was pulling a trailer at the intersection of U-111 and 5400 South shortly before 1:30 p.m.
Initial investigation showed the dump truck had stopped at a stop sign and then pulled out in front of the other vehicle, West Valley Police Capt. Steve Sandquist said.
The second driver locked up his brakes trying to avoid a collision, but it was too late. The driver was flown by medical helicopter to a local hospital in critical condition.
The driver of the truck that allegedly pulled out in front of the other was taken by ambulance in fair condition.
Investigators were still determining Monday if speed or a failure to yield were contributing factors in the accident, Sandquist said.
There is no traffic light at the intersection. Sandquist said police would like to see one installed at that location.
