Regarding the merits of Salt Lake County's plan to create housing for the homeless, it would be interesting to find out how many homeless people currently being serviced here were Utah residents before they became homeless. I wonder how many came here in recent years, already homeless from other states, knowing or believing that greater homeless services are offered in Salt Lake. While I feel a responsibility to help those who truly need it here in Utah, there is no way we can afford to provide housing for the nation's homeless. Whatever plan is adopted here needs to include provisions that will safeguard our county and state from becoming a draw for homeless people from other areas.
