CENTERVILLE A bit of Midwestern history dear to the heart of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will come to Centerville on Aug. 27.
The Centerville North Stake of the LDS Church will hold a "Restoration Celebration: The Prophet and Places" from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday at 1298 N. 400 West east of the Willow Wood Ward meetinghouse.
This recreation area property will feature a taste of old Nauvoo reconstructed on the site.
This event is a "jubilee celebration" that focuses on Nauvoo in honor of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Joseph Smith.
The facades of several old Nauvoo buildings including the temple, the Red Brick Store, a bakery, blacksmith shop and schoolhouse.
A quilt display will set the stage for recollections of each church history by a woman portraying Lucy Mack Smith, Joseph's mother.
Music and dancing, commemorating the Nauvoo Brass Band, will be ongoing.
Inside the ward building, there will be re-enactments of significant moments in church history.
This celebration involves many stake members. Primary president Debbie Mair and her husband, Gale construction manager for Jacobson Construction Co. were in Nauvoo during the temple construction there and were the logical choice for the chairpersons of the event, according to Gary Porter, stake president.
