SANTAQUIN — Former planning commissioner Filip Askerlund was appointed to the City Council on Wednesday.

Askerlund replaces Dennis Brandon who was appointed mayor after LaDue Scovill stepped down from the top city job. Askerlund is one of seven candidates for two council seats in the fall election, City Manager Stefan Chatwin said. Brandon is not seeking re-election and will serve out Scovill's term, which ends Dec. 31.
