GOOD NEWS FOR REAL
The MRI that Real Salt Lake striker Jason Kreis had on his right foot Monday showed no fracture, only minor soft-tissue damage.
He injured the foot in Saturday's win over Chivas USA, and the club feared he might have a hairline fracture in the foot.
RSL coach John Ellinger said he was extremely relieved by the good news Monday, and acknowledged that Kreis would likely start in this Wednesday's game at New England.
Aside from a May 18 home match against Chivas in which he was suspended for an accumulation of yellow cards, Kreis has started and played the full 90 minutes in RSL's 19 other matches.
He leads the team with seven goals.
ON THE FIELD
On Saturday, FC Dallas played its first game in Pizza Hut Park, a brand new soccer-specific stadium in Frisco, Texas.
The stadium is still slightly under construction, but 15,000 seats were made available for Saturday's match with the MetroStars which the MetroStars rallied to tie 2-2.
The 21,193-seat stadium is surrounded by 17 championship-quality soccer fields in the 117-acre master development.
The facility was built by both private and public funds, between Hunt Sports Group, the City of Frisco and its Economic Community Development Corporations, as well as Collin County and the Frisco Independent School District.
The stadium will also be used for U.S. National Team games, major concerts, international soccer matches as well as high school football games.
Dallas became the third MLS franchise to call a soccer-specific stadium home. In 1999, the Columbus Crew began play in Crew Stadium, a 22,555-seat facility.
Then in 2003, the Los Angeles Galaxy moved into the Home Depot Center, a 27,000-seat facility.
OFF THE FIELD
On Thursday, the MetroStars finalized plans to build a 20,000-seat soccer-specific stadium in Harrison, N.J. about a 20-minute train ride from Manhattan. MetroStars owner Phil Anschutz, who also owns four other MLS teams, agreed to pay half of the $160 million cost of building the stadium.
