FARMINGTON — Kids, rabbits, cotton candy and of course, pony rides. Yep, it's time for the Davis County Fair, Aug. 17-20.

One of the few county fairs in Utah that charges no admission fee and offers some free entertainment every night as well as paid attractions such as the popular demolition derby and two nights of PRCA-sanctioned rodeo.

The Davis County FairPark, 151 S. 1100 West, over the I-15 freeway overpass to west Farmington and just west of the county courts and sheriff's complex, opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 11 p.m. daily.

Bring your lawn chairs and pillow Aug. 18 for the free movie, "Napoleon Dynamite," which starts at 9 p.m. At 7 p.m., a concert starring "Imagine — Remembering the Fab Four," a Beatles tribute group will perform for free. Take lawn chairs to that performance.

Other free concerts are: Aug. 19, J. Marc Bailey; Aug. 20, Jon Schmidt; and Aug. 21, Eclipse. All concerts begin at 7 p.m.

Free pony rides will be offered on Aug. 17 from noon-10 p.m., on Aug. 18-20 from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. with breaks from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

At noon Aug. 17, the petting zoo opens as well as the Funtime Carnival. At 12:30 p.m. senior bingo will be played on the main stage and an ice cream social will be offered to seniors on the same stage.

Magician Christopher Fair will perform at 4 p.m. on the main stage, with a watermelon-eating contest at 5 p.m., musician Brandi Frampton will perform at 6 p.m., and the demolition derby begins at 7 p.m.

The basics of a traditional county fair such as small animal exhibits, junior rodeo, handicraft exhibits and baked goods and canned goods will play a part. Under the Living Arts section of the fair, there are categories for fabric arts, fine arts, floriculture, food arts, hobbies and crafts, horticulture, needle arts, photography, quilted arts, scrapbooking, and yarn works.

Equestrian events include team roping, calf roping, barrel racing, team penning, junior rodeo and an open horse show.

The small animal division includes poultry, rabbits and cavy.
