WASHINGTON (AP) A plan to give the District of Columbia a vote in Congress has won the endorsement of the National League of Cities.
The league said Wednesday its board of directors voted unanimously to support a plan that would give the district one vote in the House of Representatives. Utah also would gain a House seat. The district still would have no representation in the Senate.
The measure was introduced by Rep. Tom Davis., R-Va., who chairs the House committee overseeing the district. It would temporarily increase the number of seats in the House from 435 to 437 until the 2010 census, when congressional districts would be reapportioned back to 435, according to population.
