Pacers to sign Jasikevicius

The Jazz have lost out on their apparent top target of the NBA's summer free agency market. According to report posted late Sunday night on ESPN.com, Maccabi Tel-Aviv point guard Sarunas Jasikevicius — a former University of Maryland star, and the reigning Euroleague Final Four MVP — has agreed to accept a three-year, $12 million deal from the Indiana Pacers.

In doing so, Lithuania native Jasikevicius spurned a similar offer (perhaps even more-lucrative) from the Jazz and strong interest from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

"It really came down to who he could win a championship with next year," agent Doug Neustadt told ESPN.com's Chad Ford. "He saw a chance to contribute and win and couldn't pass it up."

The Jazz had been quietly wooing Jasikevicius since the league's negotiating period opened July 1, apparently going after him even harder than they pursued San Antonio point guard Antonio Daniels — who opted for a five-year deal from Washington over a shorter proposal from Utah.

The Jasikevicius decision leaves the Jazz still seeking a veteran point to play with first-round draft choice Deron Williams.

Options now include considering extending a full-year midlevel-exception offer sheet worth about $30 million to Los Angeles Clippers restricted agent Marko Jaric, who can have an offer he gets matched by the Clippers, or looking to make a trade for help at the point.

Jasikevicius joins Daniels, Minnesota forward Mark Madsen (staying with the Timverwolves) and Philadelphia guard Willie Green (staying with the 76ers) in spurning supposed interest from the Jazz.
