Ogden picks up extra-inning win

OGDEN— The Raptors rallied three separate times to snatch an extra-inning 10-9 win over the Helena Brewers Tuesday night. Adam Godwin hit a game-winning, two-out RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the 4,656 fans in attendance reason to celebrate.

The Brewers took control early in the contest with a four-run third inning. They extended the lead to 6-1 by the fifth, and were still comfortably ahead 7-4 entering the eighth. But the Raptors had other ideas.

Ogden put together a two-out rally to score four runs in the eighth and briefly took a one-run lead. Godwin and Shane Justis each reached base by getting hit by a pitch before Russ Mitchell blasted a two-run triple and Juan Apodaca hit an RBI double. A wild pitch scored another run, and it appeared Ogden would get its come-from-behind win. But the see-saw continued.

Helena posted two runs in the top of the ninth before Ogden again rallied with a run to tie the score in the bottom of the inning and force extra innings.

Cleanup hitter Brendan Katin has been feasting on the Raptor's pitching. After going 4-for-6 with three runs scored in Monday's contest, he came back with a two-homer, four-RBI and 3-for-5 night at the plate. He hit a solo-home run in the second to level the score, and it was his two-run blast that capped the Brewers' four-run third inning.

Besides the Raptors' resiliency, another bright spot for Ogden was starting pitcher Cory Wade. Making only his second start of the year after beginning the season throwing from the bullpen, he handled the potent Brewers lineup fairly well. Take away Katin's at-bats, and the right-hander gave up only three hits and three runs in five innings of work.

Ogden had plenty of opportunities to open up a lead. It loaded the bases with nobody out in both the third and fifth innings, but got only two runs out of the potential big innings. It was a trend that continued throughout the night as the Raptors stranded 13 baserunners including a man in scoring position in 7-of-9 innings.

The two teams continue their series tonight at 7 at Lindquist Field.
