Communities mark Pioneer Day

Communities throughout Utah will celebrate Pioneer Day this weekend with a variety of activities. Here is a list of planned events:

Beaver County

Beaver: Saturday, Pioneer Day celebrations and parade, Beaver City Park; Beaver Lions Club horse race, (888)848-5081, Sunday, jackpot roping; (435) 438-2451.

Cache County

Mendon: Saturday, 7 a.m., flag ceremony; 7:10 a.m., breakfast; 7:15 a.m., fun runs; 8:30 a.m., free pancake-eating contest; 8 a.m.-7:30 p.m., games, food, booths, followed by fireworks at dusk; (435) 752-2439.

Davis County

Antelope Island: Saturday, 9 a.m.- 6 p.m., pioneer activities; 2 p.m., buffalo chip toss contest, visitor center; 4 p.m., journal making at visitor center, Fielding Garr Ranch; Sunday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m., daily activities, pioneer games, visitor center; 11 a.m., handcart travels lecture, visitor center; Monday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m., pioneer activities, Fielding Garr Ranch; (801) 725-9263.
