The Utah Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of a crash on I-15 near 7200 South Tuesday that put a road worker in the hospital.
Lt. Doug McCleve said a Chevrolet pickup truck collided with a Dodge Ram Tuesday night in a construction zone, causing the driver of the Dodge to lose control, crash through a barricade and strike a work truck and a construction worker.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where McCleve said he was treated for bumps, bruises and cuts.
"It could have been much worse had there not been a work truck there," he said.
No citations were issued and McCleve said the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
McCleve said fines for speeding in construction zones are doubled to try to make drivers more aware of workers on the road.
"We just ask people, especially around construction zones, to pay attention. There's always going to be slowing," he said.
