SHOTGUN WINNERS

Shooters enjoyed two full days of busting clay pigeons at two different gun clubs over the weekend in the Utah Shotgun Showdown, shooting three different kinds of shotgun sports — trap, skeet and sporting clays.

The format for the event — combining all three shotgun sports — was meant to challenge shooters to get out of their comfort zone, get away from the competitiveness and seriousness of registered target shoots.

Kim Fisher, of Highland, won the men's title, hitting 161 out of 175 targets over the course of the two-day event. Leslie West of Provo and Teresa Harward of Santaquin tied for first place in the women's high overall category with a score of 133.

Dave West of Provo won the sporting clays competition; Ed Peterson of Orem won the skeet, Cam Budd of Heber City won doubles, and Jim Duke of Heber City and Sam Wingfield of Grantsville tied for long yardage. There was a three-way tie for singles among Brent Handy of Sandy, Roger Christen of Provo and Clint Hovey of North Salt Lake.
