With the Pioneer Day celebration less than two weeks away, registration for Deseret Morning News/KJZZ Marathon, 10K and Waxie 5K fun run is nearly complete.
Online registration ends Saturday at www.desnews.com/run.
Registration fee for the July 25 marathon is $50 and participants need to indicate whether they will be picked up at the Delta Center or Rice-Eccles Stadium for the 5:30 a.m. race.
Fee for the 10K race Utah's largest is $25. This year, students in grades 9-12 are invited to participate in the Envirocare World Junior 10K. Special rates apply according to the number of teams and team members.
The 5K fun run is a noncompetitive race, but it still requires a registration fee of $17.
Additionally, race packets can be picked up at the ZCMI Center on Friday, July 22, from 4 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday, July 23 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. A free health and fitness clinic, as well as product giveaways, will run at the same time.
A race clinic featuring former Deseret News women's 10K winner Olga Appell will be held at 1 p.m. on that Saturday. Appell competed for the Mexican Olympic team in 1992 and on the U.S. Olympic team in 1996 in the 10K. She won the Los Angeles Marathon in 1995 and finished second that year in the New York marathon. In 1998, she was the women's champion in the Deseret News marathon.
