SANTAQUIN — City Councilman Dennis Brandon was named mayor on Wednesday, replacing Ladue Scovill, who resigned unexpectedly a month ago.

The City Council vote was 3-1 with Councilman Wes Morgan in opposition. Morgan said he preferred Brandon remain a voting member, rather than mayor, who votes only as a tiebreaker. Brandon will be sworn in Thursday at 8 p.m. The notice for the swearing in ceremony was posted immediately to meet the requirement that residents be given 24 hours' notice.

Brandon, who was selected over James DeGraffenried and Arthur Adcock, did not participate in the discussion or vote.

Brandon, who was midway through his term, will fill out Scovill's term, which ends Dec. 31.
