— Michael Young, Rangers, went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs to lead Texas over Seattle 6-5.

— Juan Encarnacion, Marlins, went 4-for-4 with three RBIs in Florida's 7-3 victory over the New York Mets.

— Daniel Cabrera, Orioles, allowed four hits and struck out five over seven shutout innings in Baltimore's 4-0 win over Cleveland.

— Brett Myers, Phillies, struck out nine over 8 1-3 innings to lead Philadelphia over Atlanta 6-3.

TRADE

The San Diego Padres acquired reliever Paul Quantrill Saturday from the New York Yankees for left-hander Darrell May and right-hander Tim Redding, plus cash. New York designated Quantrill and left-handed reliever Mike Stanton for assignment on Thursday as part of a roster shakeup. The 36-year-old right-hander was 1-0 with a 6.75 ERA in 22 appearances this year. May was 1-3 with a 5.61 ERA and Redding was 0-5 with a 9.10 ERA.

LET GO

The Houston Astros designated left-handed reliever John Franco for assignment Saturday, giving the team 10 days to decide what to do with the NL's career leader in saves. The 44-year-old Franco was 0-1 with a 7.20 ERA in 31 games with Houston and is second behind Lee Smith on the career saves list with 424.

LUCKY 13

White Sox right-hander Jon Garland allowed three runs in seven innings of work for his major league leading 13th win in Chicago's 5-3 victory over Oakland on Saturday night.
