MetroStars missing MVP

Even though Real Salt Lake is a little shorthanded with Eddie Pope away with the U.S. National Team, there's no question it is catching the MetroStars at a good time this Fourth of July.

Not only is reigning Major League Soccer MVP Amado Guevara suspended because of yellow card accumulation, but flashy Frenchman playmaker Youri Djorkaeff is also out because of a right hamstring injury.

The 37-year-old Djorkaeff, who was a starting midfielder for France's 1998 World Cup title team, has been very productive in his first year in MLS — even though many questioned why the MetroStars would want to sign the aging European.

Despite missing four of 14 games this year because of nagging injuries, Djorkaeff has exceeded everyone's expectations with three goals and three assists. He's wowed MLS fans on more than one occasions with his ridiculous passing ability.

Abbe Ibrahim, the Metros' 18-year-old Togo phenom, is also out with a knee injury that has him sidelined for a month and a half. Ibrahim has two goals and three assists in just eight matches this year.

Newly-acquired forward Ante Razov is questionable just two weeks after racking up a hat track against Columbus.

YELLOW PERIL: While Guevara is forced to sit out this Monday's game because of a yellow-card suspension, Real Salt Lake's Jason Kreis and Andy Williams are in danger of facing a similar suspension.

Both RSL players enter Monday's game on a yellow-card caution, and will be forced to miss the team's next match if they pick up a yellow card against the MetroStars.

FIREWORKS SPECTACULAR: Fans are encouraged to arrive early and stay late for this Monday's game against the MetroStars.

Gates open for the 7:30 p.m. game open at 4, where fans will be able to take part in several games and activities, in addition to a CarSmart vehicle giveaway.

Shortly after the game, fans will be treated to a lengthy fireworks display.

In addition to the Independence Day activities, the Utah Soccer Association men's unofficial championship game will take place at 4 p.m. between XCEL and Soccer International.
