Davis Cable Channel 17 will soon offer a reading program, thanks to the Davis County Commissioner's Cup. The Commissioner's Cup, a golf tournament that raises funds to sponsor programs and efforts to benefit children in Davis County, will make the program possible.

The Reading Rangers will feature Causeway the Buffalo. The Reading Rangers will start production later this fall, which will feature reading programs with select kindergarten through third-grade classes, where Ranger Read and his buddy Causeway will read to kids.

The program is designed to encourage parents to read with their children and will teach parents critical skills to instill a love of reading in their families.

Causeway the Buffalo, a character much like the Jazz Bear or the San Diego Chicken, made his formal debut in Fourth of July parades. Committee members and planners envision Causeway will become the mascot of the Davis area. The character is said to have been raised on Antelope Island and wants to learn to read, so he is visiting local schools with Ranger Read to begin his goal of reading.
